Most Psychedelic Video Ever

11 Jul

Its finally happened.  Someone has succeeded in making the most psychedelic video ever.  I didn’t think it was possible, but the peeps from Guardian Alien seemed to have covered every pillar of what visually comprises modern stoner-psychedelic-conscious culture in one hyper concentrated dose.   During this six minute sensory roller coaster, you’ll be sure to run into the likes of kaleidoscope imagery, bug-eyed hippies, Buddhism shout-outs, overt drug references, neon body paint ,far out spiritual poses, didgeridoo vibrations, sunset meditations, third eye visions, a glass wielding alien rastafarian, enlightening mantras, and enough chaotic drums to pump an entire lake of blood into your veins. Not for the uninitiated — you’ve been warned!

A Music Video by the Black Angels

11 Jul

Music videos became nearly extinct in the wild sometime during the early 2000’s.  Intense conservation efforts were put into place, with much emphasis on captive breeding and rebuilding of local habitats.  After rebounding in numbers, music videos were released back into a wild landscape that had drastically changed.  Although the music video population is very stable back in the wild, and even somewhat prosperous, the newly returned videos seem to be lacking somewhat in quality compared to their illustrious forefathers.  Music videos seem to have lost the ability to properly guide its viewers through a story, or follow any sort of vague association pertaining to the music.  Abstract images, colorful patterns, random sequencing, and a focus on technique for technique’s sake abound this new population.  The species has returned and multiplied with great success, but the manner in which it coexists with its surroundings has been irrevocably altered, for better or worse.

And now, a case study of a music video that’s successfully been reintroduced into its natural habitat.

Eric Wareheim has done it yet again, and by it, I mean apply his visual humor and style to a music video, with a heavy dose of over the top sexuality.  Probably best known for his work on Adult Swim (Tim & Eric’s Awesome Show, Tom Goes To the Mayor), Wareheim has also been slyly directing music videos since 2007.  This time around, he’s linked up yet again with Major Lazer to create a music video for the song Bubble Butt.

Equal parts absurdity, kink, comedy, smuttiness, and playfulness; this video makes a perfect accompaniment to the song.  Leave it to Wareheim to have you wanking, laughing, and feeling a sense of despair all at the same time.

What I have seen from Wareheim over years of viewing his creative works, is that his vision and ability is quite vast, while staying consistent with a unique, zany style, and rump romping videos for Major Lazer are not the extent of his capabilities.

MUSIC VIDEO Ty Segall – Thank God for Sinners

1 Feb

A very fleshy music video, with enough squirming digits to make any “germaphobe” crawl out of their skin and into a bottle of Dr. Bronner’s.  Also, Ty actually looks pretty good in glam makeup (minus the poo bits on his cheeks).  Hopefully those hands weren’t too busy sinning during the making of this video, for I would really love to see Mr. Segall perform again soon, as unmolested and unsoiled as possible. =)
